Our Platform - Pathways to a Stronger Roxbury
Local Economy
The local economy is a multifaceted block in Roxbury's foundation. Recent mall renovations in the Ledgewood section of town have provided retail and dining options that are quite popular. Other strip malls throughout Roxbury cover the range of mostly occupied to barely hanging in there.
Short and long term economic development planning needs to improved immediately - and for all parts of town.
We want to work more closely with existing businesses and landlords to reevaluate what can be done to support who is doing business here as well as invite new opportunities.
Participation & Representation
We want our residents to have awareness and input to decisions about how we develop and manage our town. We believe that all Town meetings, committees, boards and commissions should be accessible to the public. This includes virtual options for meetings.
We want to create opportunities to have residents hold positions in special interest committees, commissions and boards (and put a stop to membership limitations to current Council members and their families and friends).
Infrastructure
Roxbury is linked through our roads and sidewalks, our telecom networks, and our energy resources. All these are pathways to connecting us both physically and virtually. Investing in these requires more extensive planning and collaboration than what we've been doing.
We envision a Roxbury with well-maintained and paved roads that we all can navigate on cars, bike or foot without vehicle or bodily injury. We believe Roxbury can benefit with more sidewalks, not less. Safer cross-walks allow a connected and healthier lifestyle.
We want to better leverage federal and state funding to upgrade to clean energy and transportation.
Affordability
Affordability means more than just the prices of homes, tax rates and utility bills. But these are key items that the Town Council has the ability to influence - through community energy programs, grants and forward-looking partnerships with developers, businesses and government agencies.
Our collective experiences in financial services, public gas and electric, and community programming make us the right candidates to make these forward-looking changes for Roxbury.
Parks, Lakes and Trails
Roxbury is graced with beautiful parks, lakes, ponds, and trails. All of these natural attractions have increased in popularity over the past 18 months. We are stewards of these resources and will work to preserve and protect them.
Lake Hopatcong, Musconetcong River, and Lake Musconetcong are vital to the economy and quality of life for Roxbury. Recent problems with algae blooms, weed harvesting delays and storm water management are among the negative factors affecting the lakes.
We would pursue efforts for effective storm water management, collaboration with neighboring towns we share the lakes with, and balance development with sustainable environmental measures.
Community
Through COVID-19, despite the social distancing, we saw Roxbury come together as a community stronger than ever. We bonded as we experienced and transitioned around both remote learning and working. We created teams of support as we lost friends, family and neighbors. We worked to support local businesses and resources more than ever.
Great towns have great town centers, places to gather and share a love and appreciation for the place we all choose to call home. We want to build on this and create more shared spaces and local businesses.
